The Latest
Monday was Presidents Day so with a day off I decided to reschedule my long run to Monday morning. I ran 12 miles starting from the north end of Bolsa Chica beach passed the Huntington Beach pier, continuing on to Beach Blvd. It was 6 miles out and 6 miles back. It was my second run starting from Bolsa Chica but my first run was only 10 miles.
I would have to say that I didn't prepare for this run as well as I should have. I got to Bolsa Chica at 8am. After spending the previous week in snowy Louisville, sunscreen was the farthest thing from my mind. My business trip put me a bit behind in training, so I had only run 2 nights the previous week. I started the run feeling that I didn't have much energy and it only got worse as I continued.
Today I have a pretty major sunburn that has had a number of coworkers asking me, "What happened to you." My knees are still very sore, but I'm hiding it pretty well as I walk. The one silver lining that I see from my run this weekend is that I finished it. I had every reason to stop, but I didn't. I still finished my 12 miles.
The long runs will only get harder from this point. I get a new level of respect for what 26 miles will be with each long run.

It's Official - I'm running
BRAD 'THE RUNNING MAN' HAWKINS
We've still got a few weeks before we all welcome in 2010, but for Brad Hawkins (based in Costa Mesa), he's started his New Year's Resolution early.
You might have already guessed it, yes; Brad is gearing up to run a marathon next year...The Brighton Marathon!
By choosing to run for charity, Brad will be taking on the 26 miles for a very good cause. And while Brad is not what you call a 'serious' runner, he is not one to back down from a challenge either.
Brad
started his training three weeks ago, and in the next few days, Brad will set up a blog, so you can 'follow' his training progress. He has already signed himself up for a 5k run on December 13th.
Mark Duffin was so impressed upon hearing about Brad's dedication to his running program (and philanthropy), that he placed a friendly wager on Brad's overall results.
"When I heard about what Brad was doing, I was simply amazed with his enthusiasm. 26 miles is no small number, but we've every confidence in him, and we're [the SP family] all behind him" commented Mark. "Albeit it will be from the sidelines" laughed Mark.
"I've already seen great progress in the three weeks since I've started running consistently" said Brad.
The Brighton Marathon will take place at 9am on Sunday 18th April 2010. The route will tour around the city and along the coast and will be generally fast and reasonably flat. The route will see much of the city of Brighton & Hove and coastal views.

"I have a long way to go, but on Dec 14th I will start a marathon training program that is designed for 18 weeks leading up to the race" he added.
